Why is David Ellison a "lizard" for theatrical releases exactly? Because of his politics? He has a track record of producing movies for theaters that have made money at the box office. Netflix does not. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Ellison#Film

I would say Paramount/Skydance acquiring Warner Bros instead of Netflix is another good sign for theatrical in 2026.

It's a sure-fire indicator of nothing, but in the past 2 months I've watched more movies in the theater than the previous 2 years combined and I know there are at least 2 movies in the next month I'll be seeing in theater as well. This has a lot to do with the type and quality of the movies which is in line with what you describe: original content (vs. big-budget IP vehicles) with unique stories.
