They got a bunch of VC investment this year and so they will be ruined pretty soon. Enjoy the next year, because after that it's going downhill, just like Miramax, Focus, and every great indie before it.

Oh yeah, that's why I mentioned it. It broke my fucking heart b/c they are one of the few good things about movies, which is one of the things I love most in the world. I literally watched it happen to every great indie in my life eventually...at least Focus is having a bit of a glow-up right now, and neon is still around.

Hello Daniel!

Fantastic article! I host The A24 Project podcast and we've interviewed people like David Lowery, Bo Burnham, Lulu Wang, Robert Eggers and many more over the years. I've always be keen to do an episode talking about the data and box office behind their rise. would you be interested potentially on coming on? Happy to share my e-mail with you.

Great piece. Ultimately what A24 does better than anyone else is taste and quality. It's not just that they are an indie studio producing adult work; it's that their stuff tends to be impeccably produced. The executives they have working with producers and directors are the key to their success, and hopefully VC money doesn't dull their artistic sensibilities.
